Room for Growth
As CAN grows into the future, it hopes to grow in a variety of ways. First, we hope to help ever-more people in the Grove City community. Need still exists in Grove City and as CAN markets itself better and becomes more well known in the community, request for assistance will surely go up. This will require more funding, much of which must come through personal donations from community minded individuals.
Secondly, CAN hopes to better address the needs of the whole person when they assist a client. Although immediate assistance still has precedence, the holistic needs of the client are important as well. Assistance doesn’t just mean monetary help, but also assistance in truly entering a community, connecting with churches and agencies, and developing good life habits and goals. This can be done through building personal friendships as well as creating workshops and seminars for building life habits, even after the immediate need has been taken care of. Once again, this expansion requires the help of community minded individuals who are willing to support CAN.
Thirdly, with more funding, CAN would like to create a paid position for a coordinator, who can assign caseworkers and organize assistance. Every position at CAN is volunteer based right now, and CAN would continue to be composed of a majority of volunteers, but a paid position would greatly help the ministry and allow CAN to become more effective in mobilizing volunteers across Grove City.
Finally, CAN would like to create a “start-up kit” for others seeking to create a Christian Assistance Network in their own area. Mercer, Slippery Rock, and Butler all do not have organizations which assist people in crisis like CAN does, and all could benefit from an expansion of these networks. CAN’s organization and mission is a truly innovative and effective means of ministry in a world where fast response and immediate assistance is key. All of these goals into the future simply reflect a more comprehensive realization of CAN’s mission, which is to assist as many people as they can experiencing a crisis in their lives and thereby show the love of Jesus.
