Our Goal:

CAN’s goal when working with clients is to not only help people to deal with the crisis they are facing, but also to provide the necessary training and instruction to equip those in need with the tools needed to prevent such a crisis from occurring in the future. It is important to note that CAN never hands out cash.  Rather, we seek to use money from grants or donations to specifically pay for a need, such as a monthly bill or a construction project.  CAN even offers financial training classes.  There is a proverb that says, “give a man a fish feed him one day, teach a man to fish feed him for life.”  CAN’s goal is to restore lives, not to provide temporary fixes. This is only possible with the transformational power of Jesus Christ.

CAN does provide for the immediate needs of it client as well but the ultimate goal is transformation.  Some of financial needs that CAN is specifically able to fulfill are home expenses such as clothing, utilities, home improvement, and rent or mortgage as well as medical expenses such as drugs, supplies and equipment. We also have a broad range of construction project we can do for people in need. Grove City is hurting, but society does a good job of covering it up.  Over 17% of the people we help in Grove City are currently homeless.  This is not the typical idea of homelessness, i.e. a man pushing a shopping cart.  In the Grove City area homelessness takes on the form of people being evicted out of their homes and having to live out of a car.

Our Clients:

CAN has served many different clients throughout its years of existence. 88% of the clients that CAN helped in 2010 were single females and 35% of them had children. The typical client has monthly bills averaging $1883.83 with income of slightly over $1358.  55% of CAN’s clients receive an average of $307.80 in food stamps monthly. The average heating expense for these clients is $167.69. The average electric bill per month is $141.50. The average cost of mortgage / rent is $407.00 per month. It is clear that many clients are living beyond their means and once they are helped out of their immediate crisis often need help with reducing their debt.  Because CAN strives to help them long-term, CAN makes it a point to offer them financial training, so that once out of debt they can stay out of debt.  Some of CAN’s clients include recently temporarily or permanently injured individuals.  CAN strives to help make the transition process as easy as possible. This has included building ramps to make their houses wheelchair accessible.

CAN needs volunteers and resources to further it ministry.  Please Help support CAN Today by donating!  You can also help by volunteering.
